About Wendy Gibson

My main motivation when I meet a person who comes for counselling is
How can I be with this person to help them have a richer, fuller and more meaningful life?

Counselling Qualifications

My first training was as a Nurse where I was taught how to physically care for someone's wellbeing. After qualifying at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, I trained as a Massage Therapist. I left Australia and wandered up through Asia, India and Europe. Being in India opened my eyes to different methods of healing and a wealth of spiritual values and practices.
I settled in Scotland in the early 1980's, established a Therapeutic Massage Clinic and realised that I needed more skills in order to 'help' people. I trained as a Traditional Acupuncturist in a wholistic style known as Five Element Acupuncture. This system of Chinese Medicine and the Eastern framework of healing complemented my western medical knowledge and my private practice flourished.
However, I discovered that when I started to treat people their energy became more balanced but they themselves often stayed 'stuck' in the difficulty they came with. How could I help them move and deal with the issues in their lives that was keeping them unhappy and dis-eased?
So I began many years of couselling and therapy training, first with a body focused system called Bioenergetics. This taught me how trauma can remain trapped in a person's physical structure causing illness, anxiety, depression and a whole host of related symptoms. Gestalt Therapy training taught me many valuable lessons about how to be with a person and address issues of power, control and self esteem.

Person Centred Counselling

Learning about Carl Rogers (1902-1987), an American psychologist and founder of Person Centred Counselling, opened up a whole new way of being with a person as he believed deeply in the capacity of every person to find his or her way forward. He maintained that the best facilitator was the one who enabled others to feel that they had done it themselves, whatever 'it' happened to be. I qualified in Person Centred Counselling from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow and started a counselling practice alongside my acupuncture and massage therapy.

Counselling Practice in Koolewong, Central Coast, NSW.

I returned to Australia in 2000 and started a private couselling practice near Gosford and Woy Woy on the Central Coast of NSW. To my counselling practice I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge from many different frameworks of healing: incorporating modern Western positive psychology methods and understanding, with ancient Eastern wisdom.
